To what extent do second language (L2) learners benefit from various instructional conditions in the acquisition of L2 pronunciation? My presentation will address this question in two parts, based on a series of classroom- and laboratory-based studies focusing on diverse L2 pronunciation targets in English, French, and Korean. In the first part, I will introduce the efficacy of intentional learning on the acquisition of L2 pronunciation. Particularly, various instructional techniques, such as form-focused instruction and corrective feedback, and their differential benefits are highlighted. In the second part, I will present the role of incidental learning and the effects of various exposure frequencies on the acquisition of L2 pronunciation. Finally, I will conclude the presentation by urging researcher-practitioner collaboration for evidence-based L2 pronunciation learning and teaching, followed by future directions in this line of research.
